Shakeil Jones is a creative artist, artistic program coordinator and youth advocate from the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago. He recently concluded his MA degree in Dance at Florida State University. Shakeil’s research interest are in ritual dance practice paying particular attention to physical immersive behavior in ritual dance performance, understanding the use of the body as a spiritual communicator in its physically vulnerable and exerted state, and deconstructing and reconstructing movement to translate meaning across cultures. Shakeil takes pride in his contributions locally and internationally to promote Caribbean culture and sees his efforts as a nation building tool. He is an ardent supporter of programs that foster cultural retention as he believes that it aids in bringing sustainability to communities and propel our identity as Caribbean people.
