Janet Morrison is a BBC Award Winning radio playwright of The Fisherman, 2012 and filmmaker of Silent Hearts, 2016 (one of the 5 JAFTA Propella short feature winners for that year). She has worked in communications for over 40 years as Copywriter, Film, Video and Radio Producer, Production Manager, Social and Behaviour Change Communications Specialist, and Advertising Executive. Janet holds a Master’s Degree in Communication for Social and Behaviour Change, 2005 (with Distinction) from the University of the West Indies and was one of the first cohort of Radio and TV graduates of the Degree programme (1974) at Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada.
Over the years she has used her creative writing skills and production experience to develop a body of work in scripting and producing edutainment films that have been utilised as part of best practices in HIV interventions in Jamaica and the Caribbean; wrote, produced and directed numerous television commercials during a 30-year career in advertising. She also wrote several episodes of “Claffy,” a popular comedy series on Jamaican Television in the 90’s.
