Launch of TVE 4 2021!

Fresh Milk (Barbados), in partnership with TEOR/ética (Costa Rica), is pleased to announce the launch of the 2021 edition of Transoceanic Visual Exchange (TVE), an online exhibition showcasing video art, film and new media from across the Caribbean and Central America.

ABOUT TVE 4:

TVE is a collection of recent films and videos from artists practicing in the Caribbean and Central America. It aims to negotiate the in-between space of our cultural communities outside of traditional geo-political zones of encounter and trade, intending to build relations and open up greater pathways of visibility, discourse and knowledge production between the regional art spaces and their communities.

With the ongoing pandemic and the Central American and Caribbean regions continually needing to navigate with resilience through climate, economic and citizenship challenges, TVE 4 provides a beacon of optimistic possibilities. These artists, divided geographically but interconnected by similar negotiations of space and identity, engage in conversation with each other in the digital realm of the TVE virtual exhibition, and the invitation to participate in these ever-morphing organisms of discussions is extended to all of those who visit our site.

ABOUT THE PARTNERS:

Fresh Milk

Fresh Milk is an artist-led, non-profit organisation founded in 2011 and based in Barbados. It is a platform which supports excellence in the visual arts through residencies and programmes that provide Caribbean artists with opportunities for development, fostering a thriving art community.

Fresh Milk offers professional support to artists from the Caribbean and further afield and seeks to stimulate critical thinking in contemporary visual art. Its goal is to nurture artists, raise regional awareness about contemporary arts and provide Caribbean artists with opportunities for growth, excellence and success.

TEOR/ética

Located in San José, Costa Rica, TEOR/éTica is a private, independent, non-profit, dedicated to the research and promotion of contemporary artistic practices.

Throughout more than two decades, TEOR/éTica has worked as a platform that promotes the research and dissemination of contemporary art, with an emphasis on Central America and the Caribbean. It aims to create spaces for doubt, debate and the generation of critical thought relevant to its context. It does this through exhibitions, publications, talks, workshops, grants, an archive and a specialized library, understanding art as a common space from where to generate study and find other ways of being together that build collective learning.

CATAPULT Stay Home Artist Residency Blogs – Issue 3, Vol. 3 & 4

The CATAPULT Stay Home Artist Residency (SHAR) provides opportunities for 24 cultural practitioners from the English, French, Spanish and Dutch speaking Caribbean to be supported while safely remaining in their studios/work-spaces, each of whom will receive a $3,000 USD stipend to produce work over a two-month period.

We are pleased to share Issue #3, Volume 3 and Volume 4 of the blog posts produced by participating residents, documenting their experiences and processes during their residency. Issue #3 follows the journey of the third group of SHAR awardees: Franz Caba (Dominican Republic), Myrlande Constant (Haiti), Miguel Keerveld (Suriname), Las Nietas de Nonó (Puerto Rico), Ada M. Patterson (Barbados), Kelly Sinnapah Mary (Guadeloupe), Shivanee Ramlochan (Trinidad & Tobago) and Angelika Wallace-Whitfield (The Bahamas).

ABOUT CATAPULT:

CATAPULT | A Caribbean Arts Grant is a COVID-19 relief programme conceptualised by Kingston Creative (Jamaica) and Fresh Milk (Barbados) and funded by the American Friends of Jamaica | The AFJ (USA). Designed as a capacity building initiative it will directly provide financial support to over 1,000 Caribbean artists, cultural practitioners and creative entrepreneurs impacted by the pandemic and working in the themes of culture, human rights, gender, LGBTQIA+, and climate justice.

American Friends of Jamaica | The AFJ has a near 40 year history of funding charitable organizations in Jamaica in the fields of Education, Healthcare and Economic Development. Announcing Caribbean Linked V

Ateliers ’89, Oranjestad, Aruba in collaboration with Fresh Milk, Barbados and ARC Magazine is pleased to announce that the regional artist residency Caribbean Linked V will be taking place at Ateliers ‘89 from August 6^th through 28^th, 2018. The official opening event will be held on Wednesday, August 8^th from 8pm – 12am.

Thanks to generous support from this year’s core sponsors BankGiro Loterij Fonds, Mondriaan Fonds, The Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (TPEF), UNOCA and Aruba Bank, as well as number of local sponsors in Aruba, creatives from around the French, Spanish, English and Dutch Caribbean will convene to produce work, meet cultural activists in the Aruban art community, participate in public talks, blog about their experience and present a closing showcase of works during this three week period. The final event will be held on Sunday, August 26^th.

Caribbean Linked is a space for building awareness across disparate creative communities of the Caribbean. It has created viable opportunities for young artists, writers, critics and creative activists from over twenty countries to foster new relationships with a larger community, contributing to the holistic development of the creative industries. In addition, it provides the opportunity to link with industry professionals who facilitate access to wider global conversations for the region’s practitioners, while allowing the artists to create work, exchange ideas and broaden cross-cultural understanding.

Artists this year include Irvin Aguilar (Mexico/Aruba), Franz Caba (Dominican Republic), Kriston Chen (Trinidad and Tobago), Sharelly Emanuelson (Curaçao), Gwladys Gambie (Martinique), Ada M. Patterson (Barbados), Velvet Zoe Ramos (Aruba), Averia Wright (The Bahamas) and Raily Stiven Yance (Venezuela).

The writer in residence will be art historian and independent curator Marina Reyes Franco (Puerto Rico). Visiting artists who will be lending support to Ateliers ’89 during the residency will be Laura de Vogel (Aruba) and Katherine Kennedy (Barbados). This year’s specially invited curators will be Alex Martínez Suárez, independent curator and general coordinator and museographer at the Museo Fernando Peña Defilló, a private museum in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and Miguel A. Lopez, co-director and chief curator of TEOR/éTica in San José, Costa Rica.
